‘Black Lightning’ Star Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III Joins Legion M as ‘Defiant’ Producer of Captain Robert Smalls Heist Movie
Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones will produce the film alongside legendary actor, director, producer and Legion M advisor, Bill Duke as Executive Producer.
Los Angeles, California - May 27, 2022 - Legion M, the first entertainment company in history owned by fans, has announced that Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III (Black Lightning, Spiderman: Into The Spiderverse) is joining the team to help produce Legion M’s in-development feature film DEFIANT, which details the incredible true story of Civil War hero, Captain Robert Smalls.
DEFIANT is the true story of enslaved harbor pilot Robert Smalls who, in the midst of the Civil War, pulled off the most audacious heist in history by stealing a Confederate warship, disguising himself as the Captain, filling it with family and friends and sailing to freedom. Producing the project alongside Jones III are the Wolper Organization ("Roots") and legendary actor, director, producer and Legion M advisor Bill Duke as Executive Producer (“Mandy,” “Predator,” "Black Lightning").
The story of DEFIANT coming to the screen is the result of a popular meme that made its way to Legion M’s Members Only Facebook Group, with thousands of fans saying “I Want To See This Movie!”. Fortuitously, one of Legion M’s investors and award-winning best-selling author, Robert Blake Whitehill, had written a script about Smalls and sent it to Legion M, where the company fast tracked it into development.
