William Shatner - Hollywood Charity Horse Show
For over 30 years now, Legion M advisor William Shatner has hosted an annual charity event called the Hollywood Charity Horse Show, which directly benefits local children's and veteran's charities. This year's incredible event (which featured an equestrian exhibition, live music from Dwight Yoakam, and a silent auction) took place on June 3rd and Legion M was there. The Hollywood Charity Horse Show, founded by the renowned William Shatner in 1990, is a remarkable testament to his philanthropic spirit and compassion. Upon witnessing the profound impact of Ahead With Horses' equestrian program on children facing significant disabilities, Mr. Shatner was inspired to establish this non-profit organization. Over the past thirty years, the organization has expanded its philanthropic efforts to encompass a range of noble causes, supporting children, veterans, and horses. The charity’s diligent efforts have resulted in significant success and accomplishment.
The evening started out with a reining horse show at the Equestrian Center. Reining is often described as a Western style form of dressage and originated from working with cattle. Cowboys needed agile and fast horses, that could change directions quickly and stop "on a dime." The horse and rider went through a series of drills that were truly impressive, especially watching the horse gallop (the fastest speed of a horse) from one end of the arena to the other and come to an abrupt stop. They were truly incredible! The Q&A session moderated by Mr. Shatner was both informative and very cool.
Following the horse show, attendees were treated to a magnificent buffet-style dinner and a silent auction, with entertainment by the legendary country music artist, Dwight Yoakum. The performance delivered by Mr. Yoakum and his band was truly remarkable, with non-stop entertainment that left a lasting impression on me. I have added his music to my playlist.
The highlight of the evening was meeting Mr. Shatner and the esteemed Legion M staff: David Baxter, Vice president of Development and Ramona Snyder, Ambassadors Program Manager. It was a great privilege to have had the opportunity to spend the evening with them. An awesome gathering of good people for a worthy cause.

I was so happy to see a Legion M event close to me that sounded like lots of fun. And it was! I saw a few people I already know from various events, and met new ones too. Had a brief conversation with Mr. Shatner at the horse event. Concert entertainment was Dwight Yoakum and his band, and lasted almost 2 1/2 hours! It took so long as there was wonderful comedy as Mr. Shatner liked to interrupt the concert to talk to Dwight making suggestions of changes to what he was playing.
I also brought as my guest, Mr. John Semper, Jr, who has a broad background in the entertainment industry as a writer for many things we have seen over the years. I am hoping to get him involved with Legion M.
