Project Update: Get the latest on DEFIANT—Legion M's most ambitious project to date!
If you are a long-time Legion M investor you are probably aware of our Defiant project, which centers on the remarkable true-life story of Robert Smalls. If you are a newer investor, you may not. Either way, we thought it was high time to provide an update as we’ve had a lot of recent momentum and have some exciting new assets to share.
WHO WAS ROBERT SMALLS?
If you are like a lot of people, you are aware of Robert Smalls because of a meme:
Like most memes this may sound like a bit of stretch, but if you do a bit of research you’ll find that not only is this one true – it’s only the tip of the iceberg!
The true-life story of Robert Smalls is nothing short of astonishing. He was born into some of the cruelest circumstances imaginable, and yet as a young man of just 23 years old, he had the courage and fortitude to take control of his life – along with the lives of those he loved – and become the master of his own destiny. He went from slave-quarters to the State House and along the way, altered the course of the Civil War and forever changed the trajectory of US history.
It’s a modern day superhero story with the ability to entertain, educate and inspire. And it's all based on a real person!
WHAT DOES LEGION M HAVE TO DO WITH THIS?
We’re trying to make this movie! Maybe even a series, as there are lot of stories to be told. It's a hugely ambitious project – the budget for something like this is orders of magnitude higher than anything Legion M could afford to fund at our current size. To succeed we need a studio partner, and to get that we need a package of script, director, and talent that can justify the level of investment required for a project of this caliber.
